The Department of Educational Leadership and Cultural Studies in the College of Education at the University of Houston seeks a department chair with an accomplished record of scholarship, a commitment to the educational demands in a large multicultural urban environment, and the skills to facilitate research and training collaboratives with pre-school through higher education institutions.

The University of Houston:
The University of Houston (UH) is the most ethnically diverse comprehensive research university in the United States. A public-assisted research university comprised of thirteen colleges/schools, UH offers a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate programs to more than 35,000 students representing the 50 states and 127 countries. Located in the nation's fourth largest city, the University is a major supplier of educators and administrators for the nation's seventh largest public school district, several other districts with student populations exceeding 50,000, and the nation's second largest community college system.
With preparations to launch a major development campaign, UH has also been recipient of special excellence funding from the Texas legislature to attract nationally eminent scholars to our faculty and to expand the University's funded research activities.
The College of Education:
The College of Education, comprising four academic departments, is staffed by approximately 90 full-time faculty and enrolls 3,000+ students.
The College faculty are nationally and internationally recognized for their scholarship and the development of innovative professional training programs, as well as for their service contributions to the local educational community and state and national professional associations.
Faculty research efforts successfully compete for funding from the US Department of Education, National Institute of Health, National Science Foundation, other federal programs, and various national and local foundations. The College is NCATE accredited.
The Department of Educational Leadership and Cultural Studies:
The Educational Leadership and Cultural Studies Program prepares both (a) researchers who will become university professors or work in research and development environments, and (b) future educational leaders who can apply knowledge and analytical skills to shape and implement K-12 and post-secondary education practice and policy.
Our graduates assume a broad array of administrative, academic, and research positions in schools and school districts, post-secondary institutions, associations, government agencies, and educational functions in business and industry.
Our mission is accomplished through coursework designed to develop analysis of critical issues in the field, individualized attention to students' progress, and support for execution of original student research. The program takes advantage of its unique location by engaging K-16 education leaders from urban school districts, professional associations, and federal and international government agencies to participate in our students' learning experiences.
Preferred Candidate Qualifications:
- An earned doctorate in educational administration or an equivalent degree closely related to the field
- A continuing record of research/scholarly productivity and accomplishment sufficient for appointment at the rank of Full Professor
