Assistant Professor - Industrial Design - Tenure Track

Description:

The University of Houston has established a new degree program in Industrial Design within the Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture. The new program constitutes the first academic industrial design program in the state of Texas. Qualified professionals who are committed to achieving our goal of national and international leadership in this field are invited to apply for a program development / teaching position commencing in the fall of 2006.

This unique opportunity exists within an established college located in one of the nation's largest and most dynamic urban centers. The resources of the city of Houston and its environments include: NASA, the Houston Medical Center and diverse industrial entities.

In addition to establishing its own identity and directions, the new program in Industrial Design will have the opportunity to engage with the College of Architecture's design studios and the Sasakawa International Center for Space Architecture (SICSA).

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Masters or higher degree in Industrial Design or related discipline
  • Professional experience including collaboration with industry
  • Excellence in design evidenced through peer recognition
  • Knowledge and experience with current and developing technologies
  • University teaching experience preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the establishment of program directions & curriculum development
  • Industrial design lecture and studio teaching
  • Development of funded research
  • Committee assignments
  • Student advising

Salary

Rank and salary offered will be appropriate to qualifications. The college recognizes design as a valid form of scholarship and has a history of encouraging studio faculty to engage in exemplary design practice.
