Assistant Professor - Movement and Acting - Tenure Track

Description:

The School of Theatre & Dance seeks an Assistant Professor of Movement and Acting for a 9-month tenure track position available August 2013. This individual will have a proven record of training actors who move well and work in the profession; demonstrated ability to provide mentorship to undergraduate and graduate acting students; professional credits as an actor; a terminal degree (MFA); and the vision and leadership to contribute to the continued development of an acting program of regional and national importance.

The successful candidate will have expertise in one or more of the following; Lecoq, Decroix, Alexander, Feldenkrais, Suzuki, Leban/Bartenieff, Stage Combat, Martial Arts, Clowning and Circus, Masks, Yoga, Viewpoints or comparable movement specialties. Candidates must be able to train actors in text based physical choices.

Responsibilities include: teaching several levels of movement and acting in BFA and MFA curriculum; leadership in continued curricular development of BFA and MFA acting progressions; serve as movement coach for departmental productions and serve as an acting coach in departmental workshop productions.

Minimum Qualifications
MFA in acting with an emphasis on movement; knowledge and appreciation of various approaches to actor training; three or more years of University or College teaching experience or extensive professional experience as an equity actor or movement/fight director; ability to work collegially within a liberal arts setting. All tenured and tenure track faculty in the Performance Area are expected to maintain a professional profile as actor, director, voice and diction coaches or movement/stage combat coaches.
