Associate Professor in Professional / Applied Spanish - Tenure Track
Description:
The Department of Hispanic Studies at the University of Houston invites applications from candidates at or promotable to the Associate Professor rank with a specialization in Professional Spanish. We encourage applicants with experience in teaching and/or coordinating the study of Spanish language and culture for specific professional purposes (Business, Translation, Medical and other Health Professions, Communications, and Service Industry).
A publication record in the field is required.
The successful candidate would be expected to teach undergraduate classes and promote the newly created Minor in Spanish for the Professions. Candidates should show commitment to teach a diverse student population, particularly one with a strong percentage of Heritage Speakers of Spanish. With its current enrollment of 25% Hispanic students, the University of Houston is a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HIS), one of only three Tier One universities with this particular designation.
