PSYCHOLOGY

Associate or Full Professor - Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience - Tenured

Description:

The Department of Psychology at the University of Houston seeks to hire a faculty member at the Advanced Associate or Full Professor level to join its Developmental Psychology group. We are actively restructuring our program in Developmental Psychology around a concentration in developmental cognitive neuroscience. We currently seek to add a senior faculty member whose research interests focus on addiction neurobiology. Commitment to excellence in research is essential, and the successful candidate will be expected to maintain an externally funded program of research in their chosen area. Commitment to teaching is also required, and individuals who could offer courses in psychopharmacology and/or basic physiology of the central nervous system at the graduate and undergraduate levels are especially encouraged to apply.

Current faculty interests in developmental aspects of psychology cover the lifespan and include cognitive development, laterality, visual attention, exercise-driven neuroplasticity, and neurobiological bases of bilingualism. Additional information on the Department of Psychology is available at http://www.psychology.uh.edu.

The University of Houston is a Carnegie designated Tier One research university, and has also been designated Tier One for Community Engagement. Located in the heart of the nation's fourth largest city, UH is one of the most culturally and ethnically diverse public research universities in the nation, with roughly 38,000 students on the main campus. Ten minutes away is the world's largest medical center, the Texas Medical Center (TMC), with whom we are linked through federal grants, research institutes, faculty appointments, student practicum placements, and research. Rice University, with whom we also have long-term connections, is nearby as well. We also maintain extensive partnerships with industries, school districts, and mental health groups in the greater Houston area for research, training, and consulting.
