Faculty Position - All Ranks - Fluid Mechanics - Tenured or Tenure-Track
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Houston (UH) invites nominations and applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level or tenured faculty position at the level of Associate or Full Professor beginning Fall 2014, or later, starting date negotiable.
As a part of a major drive for excellence, including recent designation of UH as a Tier 1 university, the Cullen College of Engineering has a strong commitment to advance both the quantity and quality of our engineering research programs.
UH is Texas' premier public metropolitan research and teaching institution with over 35,000 students located on a park-like campus proximal to downtown Houston, the fourth-largest city in the nation. In addition to being the energy capital of the world, Houston is home to the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical center in the world and NASA's Johnson Space Center. Houston supports a full spectrum of cultural organizations as well as sports and year-around outdoor activities. With 18 faculty lines expanding to 28 and 250 graduate students, mechanical engineering annual research expenditures will soon exceed $250K per tenure track faculty member.
Applicants should have teaching and research interests in fluid mechanics, preferably related to the energy and/or biomedical areas, and, at the Associate and Full Professor level, a successful externally funded research program with potential for continued expansion. The successful candidate would be expected to participate in the selection of additional junior faculty in the near future. The desire and ability to teach relevant courses at the undergraduate level as well as courses at the graduate level commensurate with his/her research interests are required. Academic experience in mechanical engineering is preferred. Good communication skills, both oral and written, as judged by faculty and students, are essential.
