Instructional Assistant Professor - American Sign Language Interpreting - Non-Tenure-Track

The American Sign Language Interpreting Program in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Houston seeks applicants for a nine-month, non-tenure track, full-time instructor position beginning September, 2013.
The University of Houston is located in the vibrant international city of Houston, Texas, the fourth largest city in the nation. Each year we educate over 39,000 students and are noted to be one of the most culturally diverse campuses in the US.
The Bachelor's program in American Sign Language Interpreting (ASLI) (http://www.uh.edu/class/comd/asli/) began in fall, 2009 and currently has approximately 30 students. It is the first of its kind in the state of Texas.
We are seeking a creative, innovative applicant with a passion for teaching the theoretical and practical aspects of American Sign Language.
Responsibilities include; teaching ASL and related classes; curriculum development and evaluation; assisting with the development of community outreach programs and workshops, and working closely with the ASLI Program Coordinator and other ASL faculty.
The successful candidate will possess a minimum of a Master's degree in ASL Linguistics, Interpreting, Deaf Studies, Deaf Education, or related field from an accredited institution, native/near-native proficiency in ASL and three years teaching experience related to ASL, Deaf Studies, and/or interpreting.
