John J. Antel

John J. Antel is provost and senior vice president for the University of Houston and senior vice chancellor for academic affairs for the University of Houston System. He is a Professor of Economics and former Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Houston.
Dr. Antel served as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences from 2002-2009. Effective February 2009, Dr. Antel was appointed as the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, UH System, and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. Professor Antel received his undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of California at Berkeley in 1972. In 1983 he received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California at Los Angeles. Before joining the University of Houston Economics Department in 1981, Dr. Antel worked as a labor and population studies consultant to the RAND Corporation in Santa Monica, California. Dr. Antel served as Economics Department Chair at the University of Houston from 1997 to 2002. He served on the University of Houston Academic Senate Executive Committee from 1999 to 2002.
Professor Antel continues to teach and do research in labor economics, health economics, and applied statistics at the University of Houston.
