The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and the Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts to Host the Colour of Music Festival

The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and the Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts are proud to welcome the Colour of Music Festival to campus this year supported by the Office of the Provost. Starting next Wednesday, September 12 to Sunday, September 16, the “Petit” version of the festival will feature African American classical musicians from around the world performing organ, piano, vocal, chamber, and orchestral works. Through live concerts and panel discussions, internationally recognized musicians and scholars will showcase the impact of African American classical artists on American and world culture.

Engineering Professor Chosen For Highest Honor From Society Of Petroleum Engineers

The Society of Petroleum Engineers bestowed its highest honor – the SPE/AIME Honorary Membership – on Christine Ehlig-Economides, Hugh Roy and Lillie Cranz Cullen Distinguished University Chair at the University of Houston and a member of the prestigious National Academy of Engineering. Honorary Membership is limited to 0.1 percent of the SPE total membership. SPE is a not-for-profit professional association whose members are engaged in energy resources development and production.

Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts student wins 1st Prize in the 2018 Japan International Choral Composition Competition

Carlos Cordero, Moores School of Music student in music composition, wins 1st Prize in the 2018 Japan International Choral Composition Competition. There were 87 entries, with two third prizes awarded and one second prize. Carlos’s piece, Ave Regina Caelorum, mixed chorus a cappella, will be published in Japan by Panamusica.
