for the Department of Pharmacological and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the
University of Houston College of Pharmacy. This site contains information
about our faculty, their research, the seminar series, our graduate programs
and admission requirements for degrees in Pharmaceutics and Pharmacology.
Our faculty has
a long tradition of excellence and is continuously committed to delivering
quality education to professional (Pharm.D.), graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.)
students and postdoctoral fellows. The former graduates of the department
have pursued further postgraduate training at prestigious institutions,
subsequently achieved national/international recognitions for their
research, and held distinguished positions in academia, industry, and
government.
Our faculty is very
dedicated to conducting cutting edge biomedical and pharmaceutical research.
Our research investigators have competitively received support from
federal, state, industrial, private, and local funding agencies. The
research findings and discoveries have led to publications in top quality,
peer-reviewed journals, and many patent awards. Our current research
emphases in the pharmacology area include cardiovascular/renal pharmacology,
cellular signaling and transport, traditional medicine and natural products,
bioinformatics and neurosciences. Our research emphases in the pharmaceutics
area include oral dosage formulations, transdermal and liposomal drug
delivery of anti-AIDS and anti-cancer agents, drug absorption and metabolism.
This Department also hosts two Research Institutes, the Heart and Kidney
Institute and Institute for Drug Education and Research.
The University of
Houston is located in close proximity to the world renowned Texas Medical
Center. The University of Houston College of Pharmacy is proud to be
a member institution of the Texas Medical Center. Our faculty, research
investigators, and students have the benefit of establishing close collaboration,
sharing and exchanging teaching and training programs with faculty/investigators
from other affiliated institutions within the Texas Medical Center.
We all have a common goal of achieving the highest standards in research,
education and serving local, state, national, and international communities.
As the Chair, I pledge to continuously build this fine Department on
its strength and to make sure that it is the choice of place for employment,
