As a public institution, the University of Houston works to maintain a positive campus environment that promotes affirmative action, diversity, and equal access to all. Some printed materials must carry statements that reflect our commitment to this mission and our compliance with certain legal guidelines.
The following statements are approved by the Office of the President and maintained by the Office of Affirmative Action. Any questions regarding these statements should be directed to the Office of Affirmative Action at 713-743-8835.

Equal Opportunity (EO) Statements
The following Equal Opportunity statement should be used in all UH brochures and advertisements:
The University of Houston provides equal treatment and opportunity to all persons without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, disability, veteran status or sexual orientation except where such distinction is required by law. This statement reflects compliance with Titles VI and VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972 and all other federal and state regulations.
The following short version of the Equal Opportunity statement can be used in place of the longer version in all small brochures and advertisements:
The University of Houston is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action institution. Minorities, women, veterans and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
If space in your advertisement is extremely limited - to the extent that the above statement is not legible - the words "Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action" may be replaced with "EO/AA" as follows:
The University of Houston is an EO/AA institution.
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA Statement)
The following ADA statement should be used on all invitations, announcements, and marketing or promotional pieces for special events. Fill in the name or office, phone number, and date accordingly.
Persons with disabilities who desire accommodations should contact (name or office) at (phone number) by (date).

System Statements
For most UH publications, it is customary to end with a general statement about the university and the university system. The standard UH and UH System boilerplate descriptions are as follows. Following is the accepted boilerplate description of the University of Houston:
The University of Houston, Texas' premier metropolitan research and teaching institution, is home to more than 40 research centers and institutes and sponsors more than 300 partnerships with corporate, civic, and governmental entities. UH, the most diverse research university in the country, stands at the forefront of education, research, and service with more than 39,800 students.
Following is the accepted boilerplate description of the University of Houston System:
The University of Houston System is the state's only metropolitan higher education system, encompassing four universities and two multi-institution teaching centers. The universities are the University of Houston, a nationally recognized doctoral degree-granting, comprehensive research university; the University of Houston-Downtown, a four-year undergraduate university, beginning limited expansion into graduate programs; and the University of Houston-Clear Lake and the University of Houston-Victoria, both upper-division and master's-level institutions. The centers are the UH Sugar Land in Fort Bend, UH Northwest, UH-Clear Lake Pearland and the UH System at Cinco Ranch. In addition, the System owns and operates Houston Public Media, the umbrella organization for KUHT, the nation’s first educational television station, KUHF, Houston’s National Public Radio station and KUHA, the classical music station.
The following combined University of Houston and University of Houston System boilerplate description can be used in place of the longer statements when space is restricted:
The University of Houston is the doctoral degree-granting and largest university of the University of Houston System, a public system of higher education that includes three other universities (UH-Clear Lake, UH-Downtown, and UH-Victoria) and four multi-institution teaching centers (UH Sugar Land, UH-Clear Lake Pearland, UH Northwest and UH System at Cinco Ranch).
