Licensing and Trademarks

As the University of Houston continues making strides, there are various symbols that have come to represent the University. Whether it’s an individual college, program or department, it is the mandate of University Marketing to protect the integrity of the University’s logos.

Commercial Use of UH logo

University Marketing maintains a licensing agreement with the Licensing Resource Group (LRG). LRG administers the licensing process on behalf of the University and assists with issues of legality and enforcement.

Any business or individual that would like to create promotional items with the University of Houston logo for commercial purposes must use a licensed vendor. This includes giving away "free" t-shirts to paying members of an organization. A list of all licensed vendors can be found on the LRG website.

Note: Use of the University of Houston’s trademarks without license or permission is strictly prohibited. Consult with University Marketing prior to use of the official marks referenced within this website.

Non-Commercial Use

Faculty, Staff and Students

All UH faculty, staff and students may use the university logos without completing a request form for reports, research grant proposals, other business-related documents or promotional items such as t-shirts, pens and mugs.

Outside Entities

Anyone outside the university who would like to use UH logos, logotypes or other marks for non-commercial purposes should also complete the Intellectual Property Use Permission form (PDF). This permission exempts them from paying a licensing fee or being fined for license/trademark infringement. The form should be submitted to the UH Brand Review team via email at branding@uh.edu or via fax at 713-743-0424.

Note: All materials that contain the University of Houston logotypes and/or the name ‘University of Houston,’ ‘UH,’ and/or any its subunits (colleges, etc.) are trademarked entities and use of these in the creation of promotional items – whether for commercial or non-commercial purpose – must be approved by UH Branding or LRG. Please send all final artwork to branding@uh.edu for review and approval before using or printing of materials.
