Utility Services Department HVAC Mechanics maintain the central air conditioning and heating equipment in campus buildings to ensure reliable operation and indoor air quality for occupant comfort. The campus Energy Management and Environmental Control System (EMECS) is a computerized building air conditioning control system that enables remote monitoring and control of temperature conditions in campus buildings, trouble shooting operating problems, and optimizing operations for energy management. The EMECS is operated and maintained by Utility Services Department EMECS Technicians who also respond to building occupant hot and cold call problem service requests. The EMECS and Power Plant computer networks are administered and maintained by Utility Services Department technicians and management staff. The annual campus utility bill for electricity, water, sewer, and gas is over $13 million. To ensure that the university’s dozens of monthly utility bills are accurate and correct payment authorized, the Utility Services Department processes all utility bills and deals with the applicable utility to resolve billing conflicts as required.
