UH Sustainability & Energy Accomplishments

The University of Houston continues to make major strides concerning energy efficiency and sustainability. Plant Operations works in conjunction with the Sustainability Task Force in order to fulfill a number of sustainability goals. Some of the accomplishments for FY09 include:

• Installation of 300 new outdoor recycling bins (plastic and aluminum goods)
• Drafting of sustainability policy
• Adopted AASHE guidelines (Association for Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Ed)
• Organized Green Commuter Fair with Metro; installed Q-card reloading stations, educating students about the benefits of commuting
• Continue Energy conservation/retro-commissioning efforts
• Created Cougar Community Garden and organic salsa
