Buildings Magazine
Several building projects at UH have received additional
recognition for their
designs from BOMA, the Building Owners and Managers
Association
International. This organization is one of the largest
professional industry
organizations in the world, is widely recognized as a
leader in Facilities
Management and Design and includes building owners,
designers, engineers,
architects, contractors and consultants in government,
education, industry
and private business.
Each year BOMA honors the top Interior designs and the
top new buildings in
the US in all types of buildings. This year they chose
to honor 36 buildings
and interiors for “design innovation” in various
categories recognizing various
building types. The UH Welcome Center and the UH Cynthia
Woods Mitchell
Center both were honored with Design Innovation awards
in their respective
categories (Higher Education New Construction and Higher
Education
renovation/Interiors respectively). Both will be
featured in BOMA’s
publication Buildings in October 2007. They are the
first Texas higher
education buildings to be so honored.
In addition those projects which won design innovation
awards went judged
by an additional professional jury consisting of two
construction and facilities
management professionals, an architect, two interior
designers, and the
Buildings magazine editorial team for consideration for
Awards of Excellence.
Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center received an Award of
Excellence for as the
best project in Higher Education. Only 5 projects
nationwide were selected
for Awards of Excellence.
