Miller Named Interim Executive Director

Katherine Miller

Katherine Miller has been chosen as the interim executive director for Facilities Planning and Construction, as the nationwide search to find a permanent leader for the department gets underway.

With more than 27 years of professional experience — 12 of which have been with the UH System — Miller is no stranger to managing major capital construction projects. She has held several titles during her time with the University, including architect, senior project manager and principal project manager. She's had a hand in a variety of construction projects, such as the Welcome Center Parking Garage and the University Center transformation, as well as Jaguar Hall, UH-Victoria's first residential facility. Miller was also heavily involved in various renovation projects at the Energy Research Park and even helped UH put its first LEED-certified building on the map with her role as principal project manager during the Cougar Woods Dining Hall project.

Holding an architect's license in both Texas and the District of Columbia, Miller stays abreast of industry trends and developments through memberships in such professional organizations as the American Institute of Architects, the Texas Society of Architects, the Rice Design Alliance and the Construction Owners Association of America. She even finds time to be actively involved in the ACE Mentor Program, which connects architecture, construction and design professionals with high school students who might not otherwise consider careers in those fields.

Already busy in her role as the interim executive director, Miller's initial focus will be the successful completion of TDECU Stadium, but her work won't stop there. She also hopes to expand and improve upon current policies and procedures, as well as the professional development and training opportunities available to employees to keep them, and the University as a whole, one step ahead of the competition.

"Working at UH for more than a decade, I've had the opportunity to not only witness the various changes and improvements taking place on campus, but also play a direct role in making several of them a reality," said Miller. "This is an exciting time for the University and I'm thrilled to be a part of it."
