Calhoun Lofts Continues To Receive Publicity and Praise

Within the past month alone, the Calhoun Lofts facility has either garnered praise and/or increased attention through the various awards received since its opening. In mid-March, the building was recognized as an outstanding project from Learning by Design magazine which reaches 65,000+ readers.  The building was featured on the magazine's cover and received coverage throughout the publication. Kirksey Architecture, the Houston firm that designed the $107.2 million facility, earned an honorable mention award and was cited for design of the lofts.

In April, the Houston Business Journal honored Calhoun Lofts with a special project award; the Landmark Award recognizes "real estate projects and developments which make significant impressions on the Houston landscape" and continue to improve the look, feel and image of the city. Forty finalists were selected from 66 nominations received for this year's awards.

The facility was also featured on the cover of the 2009 edition of Transitions Magazine, a publication which recently won an award for Best Orientation Publication by College Newspaper Business & Advertising Managers, Inc.

Elwyn C. Lee, Vice President for Student Affairs, said, "HBJ's landmark award to the UH Calhoun Lofts recognizes the cutting edge nature of its design and functionality in a college setting. Our outstanding graduate and professional students who come from all over the world now have a place that is outstanding and world class as well."
