Purchasing New Fleet Vehicles
According to EPA guidelines, when purchasing light duty vehicles, the University must purchase Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFV) or Flexible Fuel Vehicles (FFV).

An AFV/FFV is defined as any dedicated, flexible-fuel, or dual-fuel vehicle designed to operate on at least one following alternative fuels. E85 (85% Ethanol, 15% Gasoline), CNG (Compressed Natural Gas), or LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas).

Below is a list of vehicles that are available from the manufacturers that will meet the governmental guidelines. Please be advised the list below is not all-inclusive and each vehicle purchase must be approved by the University’s Fleet Coordinator on a case by case basis. Purchasing of medium or heavy duty vehicles (IE 8,500 GVWR and above) are not governed by this regulation.

Please note that while we are required to purchase AFV/FFV capable vehicles, we are not federally mandated to use the alternative fuel. Fleet management recommends that the E85 FFV vehicles be the first choice when selecting vehicles, as the cost to purchase them is usually not more that $600.00 additional than regular vehicles. Purchasing the CNG Bi-Fuel vehicles can add between $5,000.00 to $9,500.00 to the cost of the vehicle.

The Chrysler Sebring 4-door sedans can be ordered (For Fleet Order ONLY) with the 2.7-liter V6 engines that can run on E85 (ethanol), gasoline, or any combination of the two fuels. The Sebring is available in two models including the LX and the LXI.
