Description
Cougar Village was conceived to help facilitate the University of Houston’s aspiration and transformation from an urban commuter-based campus to a Tier 1 research institution, with the student body expected to grow from the current 37,000 to 45,000 in the next five years, and the requirement that 25% of them be housed on campus.
The construction of this facility also marks the beginning of UH’s plan to build a residential village on the south edge of campus. The building is approximately 290,000 SF on 7 floors, providing 1163 beds including 35 RAs in single occupancy rooms and 282 suites housing 4 students each with a bath room and a separate foyer/vanity area, and three faculty/staff apartments on the top floor. There has been consideration to make more units on the top floor single-occupancy, pending discussions with the Honors College to commit to occupying a significant portion of the building.
