July 2004

The semester grade reports are in and Pi Kappa Phi posted the best chapter GPA for the Spring 2004 semester.  Our 2.8847 Chapter GPA beat the average for all IFC Fraternity men of 2.5568.  Way to go guys.

Good Luck to Archon Patrick Ortiz (BN # 72) and Push America Chairman Kevin Visentin (BN # 93) who are currently participating in the 2004 Journey of Hope.  Back at campus a donation of $1200 was given to Push America from money earned during the chapter’s spring fundraisers.  This money combined with our fall donation from the proceeds of the first annual “Push Week” philanthropy event has earned our chapter a place on the centennial tower being erected at the College of Charleston in honor of the Fraternity’s centennial year.

Congratulations to the newly initiated Epsilon Associate member class.  The Epsilon Class initiates had an average GPA of 3.15 while making many contributions to the chapter.  The associate member class project, a trophy-case mounted high on the wall above the front entrance to the Pi Kapp House is a valued addition to our home.  The chapter is proud to be able to call Class President Gil Allen (BN #123) and the rest of the Epsilon class our brothers.

Congratulations to our graduating seniors.  Two former chapter archons David Dalton (BN # 47) and Robert Olvera (BN #51) graduated from the Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture this May.  Former vice-archon Johnny Moreno graduated and has moved on to a Leadership Consultant position with the Pi Kappa Phi nationals.  Ted Borel who served as the chapter’s Historian also graduated and has moved to a full-time position at the firm where he has been an intern.  The chapter is looking forward to seeing you all again as alumni.

Another great Frontier Fiesta for the men of the Beta Nu chapter.  Thanks to the hard work and talent of our brothers and the help of the ladies of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority the French Quarter nearly swept the variety show awards in route to our chapter’s second consecutive Joe Koppel Award for the best overall showing.  The Bootshooters Alumni tent kept everyone well fed and ready to party during the three-day event and took home two cook-off trophies of its own.  This year was former-archon David Dalton’s final year as the chairman of the Frontier Fiesta Association and the University of Houston can thank him for making the event a big success.
