Chapter Vision, Mission and Goals

 

The Delta Iota Chapter of Phi Beta Delta participated in a “visioning” exercise that began in the summer of 2003 and was completed in the fall of 2003.  Over a period of months, the chapter met regularly in order to create a roadmap to success as a chapter.

 

The purpose of this document is two-fold:

 

  • Long-Term:  to provide a catalyst for discussion among members and the basis of what is expected to be an “organic” document outlining the vision, mission and goals of the Delta Iota Chapter of Phi Beta Delta.
  • Short-Term:  for board members (based on membership recommendation) to choose a limited number (2 or 3) of specific items to accomplish during any given academic year.

 

I.                     (Vision) Promoting Scholarship

A.      (Mission) recognize scholarly achievement

                                                               i.      (Goal) provide forum to recognize outstanding academic achievement

1.      Induction Ceremony

2.      J-1 Scholars Reception

                                                             ii.      (Goal) provide awards for outstanding academic or administrative work

1.      Raise funds for endowment

B.     (Mission) enhance opportunities for scholarly achievement

                                                               i.      (Goal) disseminate information concerning publication opportunities (i.e. national call for papers)

                                                             ii.      (Goal) provide travel and research grants

 

II.                   (Vision)  Bridging Cultures

A.      (Mission) fostering awareness of global issues

                                                               i.      (Goal) provide informal gatherings of its diverse membership

1.      No-Host Dinners

2.      Provide Scholarship Awards for Study Abroad

a.      Raise funds for endowment

b.      Determine criteria for such awards

3.      Create Chapter Newsletter

                                                             ii.      (Goal) provide catalyst for academic internationally-based programming on campus

1.      Host seminars

2.      Organize forums featuring various consulates

                                                            iii.      (Goal) coordinate internationally-based community projects

B.   (Mission) networking with individuals of similar interest

 

III.                  (Vision) Demanding Excellence; Relates to all endeavors undertaken by members of the Delta Iota Chapter of Phi Beta Delta
