A Banner Year for PBD-Delta Iota: Faculty Award for Outstanding Contributions to International Education, Edward S. Blankenship Outstanding Staff Award, and Nomination for the Senior Vice-President Elect for PBD International
The Phi Beta Delta Honor Society presents six awards each year at its Annual Conference recognizing the outstanding achievements of its members and chapters. In 2004, the PBD-Delta Iota Chapter at the University of Houston was the recipient of the Eileen Evans Outstanding Chapter award due to our work in chapter growth and development; expanding our outreach within and beyond the academic community; and service to Phi Beta Delta. This year, 2005, the PBD-Delta Iota Chapter is twice blessed with both the Faculty and Staff Awards.
Dr. Sharon Joy, Music Education Faculty and Assistant Director of Graduate Studies of the Moores School of Music, is the recipient of the Faculty Award for Outstanding Contributions to International Education. Dr. Joy currently serves as the Chair of the Membership for the chapter and is instrumental in growing the chapter to over 100 members.
Ms. Janet Fleming, Functional Analyst with the PeopleSoft Project at the University is the recipient of the Edward S. Blankenship Outstanding Staff Award. Ms. Fleming is the current Immediate Past President. Under her presidency, the Delta Iota Chapter embarked on a strategic planning process and subsequently was recognized with the Outstanding Chapter Award.
In addition, the Nominations Committee of PBD-international has nominated Ms. Anita Gaines, Director of the International Student and Scholar Services Office and Chapter Liaison of the PBD-Delta Iota Chapter of the University of Houston for the position of Senior Vice-president elect.
The board and members of Phi Beta Delta-Delta Iota congratulate our three industrious leaders for their wonderful efforts.
