Heart and Kidney Institute

Mission

The mission of the Heart and Kidney Institute is to promote basic as well as applied cardiovascular research which will lead to identifying mechanisms regulating cardiovascular function in health and disease states. Various disorders such as obesity, insulin resistance, hypertension and cardiac failure are consequence of multiple physiological factors which include genetically determined aberrations. Therefore, expertise in various disciplines are required to understand these complex processes and identify the underlying pathophysiology and develop treatment modalities.

The Institute provides an ideal environment for individuals with expertise in various facets of cardiovascular research and promote interactions and collaborative research activities between the University of Houston, the Texas Medical Center, national and international institutions, and the pharmaceutical industry.
