First-Year Pharm.D. Student

Student cost-of-education budgets are carefully developed based on the cost of living in this geographic area. With careful planning and budgeting, these budgets allow a financial aid recipient to maintain a modest standard of living. The cost of attendance listed below, are the budget components for the 2023-2024 academic year. This budget is based on costs for an off-campus student, and not actual charges. These costs are based on full-time enrollment for fall, spring, and summer semesters.

Pharm.D. Cost of Attendance (2023-24 academic year)
Tuition and fees for Texas Residents $26,496
Tuition and fees for Nonresidents $45,800
Books $3,400
Room and Board $15,732
(budget will be lower if living on campus or with parents)
Miscellaneous $3,120
Transportation $3,154
Total Texas Residents $51,902
Total Nonresidents $71,206

Tuition and fees are subject to change by the state Legislature and/or university action.

All Pharm.D. students have summer curriculum as part of the program. Summer financial aid is awarded in the month of May to those enrolled in 6 or more summer credit hours. Summer aid is awarded from the 2023-24 FAFSA.

Applying for Financial Aid

Students should apply for financial aid as soon as possible after December 1, even if they have not yet been admitted. All financial aid applicants must accept the offer of admission before aid can be awarded even if their financial aid file is complete.

To apply for financial aid, a student must complete the free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Be sure to indicate 003652 for the University of Houston school code and complete the FAFSA as a Graduate/Professional Student (no parent information is required).

Soon after the FAFSA has been submitted to the Central Processor at the Department of Education, students will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR). Students should review their SAR and make corrections to the Central Processor. At the same time that students receive their SAR, the UH Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid will receive the student's information electronically.

Types of Financial Aid

Following are forms of financial aid and education assistance for which incoming or current UH Pharm.D. professional program students may be eligible:

Grants and Loans

External Scholarships & Fellowships

University Pharm.D. Scholarships & Fellowships*

College Pharm.D. Scholarships & Fellowships (current P1-P4s only)

*University-based scholarships and fellowships are awarded through the UH Graduate School for promising entering students of exceptional caliber. Students who receive University-based scholarships or fellowships upon admission/during first year typically are eligible to receive support over multiple years (depending on fund availability and the student continuing to meet all eligibility requirements for the specific award).

College Scholarships

Incoming Pharm.D. program students who are Texas residents and show financial aid need are eligible for the Dean's Excellence Scholarship, which provides $5,000 per year and is renewable for 4 years. Another one offered for incoming Pharm.D. students is the 75th Anniversary Scholarship, which is a $3,000 one-time, non-renewable scholarship. Students have the opportunity to apply for College of Pharmacy scholarships beginning in the spring semester of their first year (P1). If selected to receive college-based scholarships, the awards will be made immediately before/after the start of the fall semester following the spring application period. College-based scholarships are awarded on an annual basis, as funds are available (students must apply each year).
