Academic Scholarship
PHAR 5662
Course Description:
A structured pharmacy experience in an academic setting dealing
with course development and teaching techniques.
Cr. 6. (0-18)
Prerequisite:
Fourth year standing in the College of Pharmacy or consent of
the instructor.
Course Proficiencies:
The student will be able to:
- Establish dates, times, and places for
the class/labs, exam reviews, and tutorial sessions.
- Recognize the majority of students in
the class by first name.
- Develop an appropriate assessment tool
to determine the baseline knowledge level of the class on each
topic presented in skills sessions.
- Prepare a list of educational goals/ learning
objectives for each topic presented.
- Develop an innovative teaching plan to
teach assigned topics.
- Prepare materials such as handouts, worksheets,
overheads, Power Point, etc. that will accommodate students’
learning processes.
- Discuss with confidence the topic(s) in
large group settings.
- Discuss with confidence the topic(s) in
small group settings.
- Retrieve, analyze, and interpret literature
regarding topic(s) to be discussed.
- Document all literature sources used to
write the module case studies.
- Develop an evaluation form to measure
the students’ value added knowledge of the topics presented
during the skills sessions throughout the internship.
- Participate as a member of the Milemarker
Team in all activities of preparation, adminstration, evaluation,
and remediation of the Milemarker Exam.
- Prepare a short presentation on any topic
to be presented at one of the community events/BBMR.
- Interact appropriately people of all knowledge-base
levels.
- Prepare topics and moderate discussions
for the Scholarship of Assessment, Learning and Teaching (SALT)
meetings.
- Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses
of lectures given by various faculty members and what teaching
styles or tactics were productive/non-productive in terms of
students learning the material.
