Course Description:
A structured pharmacy experience in an industrial pharmacy setting
dealing with sales and marketing issues and manufacturing practices.

Prerequisite:
Fourth year standing in the College of Pharmacy or consent of
the instructor.
Course Proficiencies:
The student will be able to:
- Define the different roles pharmacists
have in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Provide drug evaluations for marketing
and research support for a pharmaceutical company.
- Evaluate drug literature to determine
advantages of one product over another.
- Retrieve and analyze drug information
obtained from the Internet.
- Provide accurate, concise drug information
in the pharmaceutical industry practice setting.
- Analyze and resolve pharmaceutical issues
when they occur in the industry setting.
- Identify problems as they occur in the
pharmaceutical industry practice setting and solve them using
sound professional judgment.
- Communicate with all other disciplines
and employees in health care education.
- Describe the process of marketing pharmaceuticals.
- Describe the process of manufacturer drug
development.
- Describe the aspects of the different
phases of clinical trials:
a. Phase I
b. Phase II
c. Phase III
d. Phase IV
- Provide pharmacoeconomic support to marketing,
sales, and other departments.
- Describe the development of provider and/or
patient education materials.
- Explain the investigational drug process
through the FDA.
- Explain the FDA’s role in the drug approval
process.
- Describe and contrast positions for pharmacists
within a pharmaceutical company:
a. field sales representative
b. specialty representative
c. area account manager
d. medical science liaison
- Discuss marketing strategies and sample
disbursement within the pharmaceutical industry.
- Define the impact Medical Science Liaisons
have on accounts and Managed Care providers.
