PHARMACY SKILLS PROGRAM V
PHAR 5354

Course Description: Laboratories/demonstrations/case studies in the basic pharmaceutical sciences, compounding, dispensing and patient counseling techniques and practice.

Cr. 3. (0-9).

Prerequisite: PHAR 5353, Pharmacy Skills Program IV

Course Proficiencies: The student will be able to:

  1. Successfully complete problem solving/case study exercises in therapeutics.
  2. Successfully complete laboratory exercises in the pharmacy practice laboratory.
  3. Be able to demonstrate the ability to communicate with patients during "brown bag" medication review sessions.
  4. Apply special counseling techniques during a "Brown Bag Medication Review" such as:
    1. Inhaler instruction
    2. Glucometer demonstration
    3. Diabetic foot examination
    4. Blood pressure monitoring
    5. Osteoporosis screening
    6. Peripheral arterial disease screening
    7. Cholesterol screening
    8. Using Clinical Pharmacology computer program for Drug Interaction Reports
  5. Demonstrate a basic knowledge of various types of pharmacy practice settings.
  6. Demonstrate the ability to function as a viable team member during group problem solving sessions.
  7. Successfully complete laboratory exercises in physical assessment.
