Course Description:
This course introduces the pharmacy students to the concepts and
principles of accounting and personal finance in pharmacy practice.
Cr. 2. (2-0).
Prerequisite:
PHAR 4260, Pharmacy Management I.
Course Proficiencies:
The student will be able to:
- Evaluate the financial status of a pharmacy
operation.
- Identify cash flow problems and correct
them.
- Use financial and operational reports
to make managerial decisions.
- Differentiate the different phases of
the business cycle.
- Explain the differences between monetary
policy and fiscal policy
- Identify the various types of investment
vehicles and their comparative strengths and weaknesses.
- Manage the purchasing and inventory control
functions of a pharmacy.
- Discuss basic pricing concepts and their
application in pharmacy.
- Explain the concept of risk management
and its application to pharmacy practice.
- Reduce errors in drug management by discussing
sources, types, causes, prevention, and
reporting of medication errors.
- Apply concepts of human resource management
in hiring pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
- Explain concepts in organizational behavior,
group management and conflict management and its application
in human resource management.
- Identify aspects of business law
and its application to pharmacy management.
