PHAR 5256
Course Description:
Laboratories/demonstrations/case studies in the basic pharmaceutical
sciences, compounding, dispensing and patient counseling techniques
and practice.
Cr. 2. (0-9).
Prerequisite:
PHAR 5255, Pharmacy Skills Program IV
Course Proficiencies:
The student will be able to:
- Successfully complete problem solving/case
study exercises in therapeutics.
- Successfully complete laboratory exercises
in the pharmacy practice laboratory.
- Be able to demonstrate the ability to
communicate with patients during "brown bag" medication
review sessions.
- Apply special counseling techniques
during a "Brown Bag Medication Review" such as:
- Inhaler instruction
- Glucometer demonstration
- Diabetic foot examination
- Blood pressure monitoring
- Osteoporosis screening
- Peripheral arterial disease screening
- Cholesterol screening
- Using Clinical Pharmacology computer program for Drug
Interaction Reports
- Demonstrate a basic knowledge of various
types of pharmacy practice settings.
- Demonstrate the ability to function as
a viable team member during group problem solving sessions.
- Successfully complete laboratory exercises
in physical assessment.
