Race for Control: 5K & Fitness Festival Aug. 30

UHCOP Students Team with Houston ADA to Promote Prevention, Better Management of Diabetes at UH Event

The UH Chapter of the American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists is teaming with American Diabetes Association of Houston to promote the prevention and better management of diabetes at the Race for Control 5K & Fitness Festival Saturday, Aug. 30, at Lynn Eusan Park on the UH campus. 

The Race for Control event begins at 8:30 a.m., with the 5K getting underway at 9:00 a.m.

In addition to the 5K and Family Fun Mile, other activities at the event will be: 

  • Free wellness screenings, including cholesterol, blood pressure, blood glucose and diabetic foot exams, as well as Body Mass Index measurements;
  • Free counseling and education on diabetes management, lifestyle modifications and self-care techniques; 
  • Free samples from healthy food, supplements and other health/fitness vendors;
  • Raffle contents with proceeds benefitting the ADA. 

Registration is free; on-site registration will be available, but race participants are encouraged to sign up in advance on the ADA site here.
