Organizational Structure
The College of Pharmacy’s Department
of Clinical Sciences & Administration is headed by a Department
Chair, who has oversight of faculty and staff members comprising the
department’s three administrative divisions. Associate Professor Kevin
Garey, Pharm.D., M.S., serves as Chair of the department as well as
head of the Division of Experimental Therapeutics and Clinical Pharmacology.

Faculty members of the Division
of Clinical Therapeutics play a key role in the pharmaceutical care
of patients in partnering institutions and the delivery of the professional
curriculum.
The division includes 18 clinical track faculty members who provide
pharmaceutical care and teaching at several sites in the Texas Medical
Center and greater Houston area including:
- Methodist Hospital Systems;
- St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital;
- Texas Children’s Hospital;
- M.D. Anderson Cancer Center;
- Kelsey-Seybold Clinic;
- Therapeutic Concepts; and
- Harris County Hospital District facilities
Faculty members in the Division of Clinical
Therapeutics play a vital role in the development and maintenance of
pharmaceutical care services that serve health-care professionals, patients
and the public at-large. These faculty members provide both didactic
(classroom, tutorial and laboratory) and experiential training to become
leaders in today’s dynamic health care environment. They also contribute
to scholarly and other professional activities while participating in
service commitments to the College of Pharmacy and their respective
institutions.

The division’s five tenured or tenure-track faculty
members provide clinical service and conduct nationally and internationally
recognized basic and translational research in the areas of critical care
medicine and infectious diseases. The research group occupies approximately
4,000 square feet of laboratory space in the Texas Medical Center with
core expertise in:
- Drug analysis;
- PK/PD modeling;
- Animal model of infection;
- Molecular pathogen typing;
- Resistance surveillance;
- Patient genotyping; and
- Population surveillance/outcome studies

of Pharmacy Administration & Public Health
Rajender Aparasu, Ph.D., M.Pharm.,
Division Head & Professor
The Division of Pharmacy Administration &
Public Health consists of five tenured or tenure track faculty members
and one part-time faculty member. In addition to providing administrative
educational component in the professional program, this division is responsible
for the delivery of education in the graduate program.
Faculty members in this division teach and conduct research in the areas
of:
- Medication use and effectiveness;
- Population-based pharmaceutical care;
- Quality assessment of medication use by
patients with chronic conditions;
- Health services research among populations
with mental disorders;
- Health services and policy research;
- Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/acquired
immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) prevention research; and
- Cancer disparities and AIDS malignancy
The division houses the
Institute for Community Health, an interdisciplinary research structure
of federally funded investigators that address the Institute of Medicine’s
focus on community health initiatives through the collaboration of scientists
and health professionals, agencies and institutions of higher learning
in the Texas Medical Center.
