The Texas State Board of
Pharmacy rules require all pharmacy technicians who compound
sterile products to complete a minimum of 40 hours of instruction
and experience in the compounding of sterile products. This
training must be a single course, and must include competency
evaluation and written and practical testing, in specified areas
of sterile compounding. In addition, training must be taught
by someone who has completed the required training. Training
received in courses sponsored by an ACPE provider may be transferred
to other pharmacies. The University of Houston College of Pharmacy
offers an ACPE approved course, Aseptic Techniques for Pharmacy
Technicians, through a cadre of instructors, who teach this
course in various health care facilities and community colleges.
This Instructor Course is designed to prepare pharmacists or
certified pharmacy technicians, who have completed an ACPE approved
aseptic techniques course (20 hours for pharmacists, 40 hours
for technicians) to teach the Aseptic Techniques for Pharmacy
Technicians course, under the auspices of the University of
Houston.
The Instructor's Course
is scheduled once a year, or when 7 or more are interested in
the class.
