The
University of Houston (UH), an urban teaching and research institution,
sets standards of excellence in education, research and service.
UH is a state-supported, nationally recognized comprehensive research
university. The Main campus serves 34,000 students, both in undergraduate,
graduate, and professional studies programs and some 5,000 faculty
and staff. The university is comprised of 14 colleges with over
129 undergraduate and 100 graduate majors to offer and 3 professional
schools, including the UH College of Pharmacy.
The university
is located on a beautiful 545-acre wooded campus three miles from
the business district of the nations fourth largest city. In addition,
the campus has its own infrastructure; the university has its
own hotel, stadium, bank, chapel, television and radio stations,
art gallery, newspapers and police department.
UH public
service and community activities, such as cultural events, clinical
services, policy studies and small-business initiatives, serve
a diverse metropolitan population.
