I don’t understand my admission status… am I a pharmacy student
or not?

If you are a freshman or transfer student with pre-pharmacy courses to complete, you apply to the university and are a pre-pharmacy (not pharmacy) student. It is also possible and permissible that you are a major in a completely different college. Your files and all admission information are located at the university level. You are to contact the university Admission office and Financial Aid office, etc. for admission and financial aid information. They are found in the Welcome Center, see http://uh.edu/enroll/admis/. Our college advising office has access to your grades, test scores and course and registration information. Our college of pharmacy is one of twelve colleges within the university. Our offices are located in the Science and Research II building.

If you have completed ALL your pre-pharmacy requirements, you would apply directly to the college of pharmacy. You do not apply to the university.

I heard about the graduation pledge. What is this and am I eligible??

Entering freshmen who complete 30 hours in good standing within one academic year will be eligible for $500 toward their next year's tuition and fees. By completing 60 hours after two years, students will then receive a $1000 scholarship. Those who finish 90 hours by the end of their third year will receive $1500 toward their fourth year at UH. For more information click here.

Because the college of pharmacy is a professional program and the pre-pharmacy coursework has no real timeline or degree attached to it, the graduation pledge is not applicable for the pre-pharmacy or pharmacy student.

I heard that I may have to pay out of state tuition though I am a Texas resident?

Effective Fall 2006, you need to know that you may fall into a category that will require you to pay out of state tuition. Due to this new legislation juniors and seniors who are experiencing academic deficiencies are strongly advised to seriously consider changing majors from pre-pharmacy to a major that yields a degree and allows them to move forward in a successful career path.
The Board of Regents approved a rate for excess hours over the enrollment cap, or for taking courses a third time or more at an additional $100 per semester credit hour over the in-state rate beginning Fall 2006. If your approved degree plan requires 120 semester credit hours, then for every credit hour you attempt beyond 165 (120 + 45), you will be charged an additional $100 per semester credit hour over in-state rates. Please note that all hours in which a student was enrolled at any Texas public institution of higher education, community college or 4-year public institution, are counted for the 45 hour cap whether or not the hours are accepted for transfer credit at UH.
Also, Texas Residents attempting the same course for a third time will be charged additional tuition for that course.
Click here for information about this and other student related policies.

NOTE: There is one key point here…..We strongly advise students to NOT enroll in courses with the intention of dropping them if they get too hard or do not meet their expectations, as these courses will all be included in the total number of hours counted toward courses attempted. The student should drop any undesired or incorrect course within 5 days after school begins.

Is there a limit to the number of times I can withdraw from courses?

Effective Fall 2007, all students will be allowed a total of 6 W's (Withdrawals). W's may be used at any time during their pre-pharmacy college career to drop a course from the 12th class day of the semester through the last day to drop a course or withdraw from all courses. Students are advised to always contact their advisor with course selection questions and concerns.
