Phi Chi Sigma was a natural outgrowth of an active veteran community on the campus of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. The original twelve tried different ways and different organizations to address their desires. Nothing seemed to fit what they were trying to accomplish.
Their primary concerns were to bring the veterans together in a group where our needs could be addressed; to pull membership from students, staff, and faculty; to emphasize scholarship; to build solidarity based on the veteran experience; to serve each other and our immediate community; and from this base, to reach out to other educational institutions and involve other veterans in their dream.
This corps solidified into Phi Chi Sigma, National Veterans' Fraternity, during the spring semester of 1999. They first formed a National Organization. The first local chapter followed immediately with the induction of forty-five (45) charter members as:
Word leaked out and five other prestigious institutions have also established Charters.
In the spring semester of 2000, six students from the University of Houston also saw the need for such an organization. We established ourselves as a non-secret student organization and named ourselves after the national organization with the primary goal of becoming the newest active chapter of Phi Chi Sigma National Veterans Fraternity. We are currently soliciting members and finalizing all national affiliation requirements.
