This is your opportunity to share your student’s college experience. Please ask your student to contact his/her professor for permission in advance. Please note that some classes will not be able to accommodate visitors due to limited space.

Visit M.D. Anderson Library and chat with librarians about the technology, services, and study spaces available to students. Tours of the building will be offered every half hour staring at 10:30am. What better way to keep your students healthy and successful this academic year than to get them vaccinated against the flu.  Free flu shots will be available to students with valid ID at the University of Houston Health Center.  Family members who are 18 years old or older can also receive the flu shot for $15. Available while supplies last.  Picture ID required.

Free Physical Exams and Teeth Cleaning
– When you visit the Health Center your student can enter a drawing for a free physical exam and/or teeth cleaning! Find out more about services we offer: General Medical Clinic, Orthopedics, Psychiatry, Women’s Clinic, Men’s Clinic, Dental Clinic, Lab and Pharmacy Services.

The college experience is a fun but also stressful time for both students and family. This workshop explores ways to manage the necessary balance between supporting your student while providing the independence that is critical for their success in college.  If you are unsure how to support your student because either you didn’t attend college or this is the first of your children to attend college then this session will be of great support to you. This discussion will be followed by a tour of our facilities, and coffee and dessert in Cougar Grounds—our student-run coffee shop. Take a moment out of your busy day to make a difference!  Stop by our Cougars Give Back station and help build care packages for the Star of Hope, which provides services and shelter to Houston’s homeless men, women and children.  Help us build care packages and write notes of encouragement for those who need it most.  Do you collect toiletries from hotels?  Consider donating travel size shampoo, soap, conditioner, combs, razors, toothpaste etc.  It’s all needed!  Other needed items are Band-Aids, Kleenex, socks and washcloths.  Sponsored by Center for Student Involvement and the Metropolitan Volunteer Progam

The Campus Community Garden at the University of Houston teaches students how to garden organically while giving back to the community by providing healthy produce to local food banks. Participants will sample food from the garden, receive a tour and brief history of the garden and have the opportunity to learn the “ins-and-outs” of managing a garden including weeding, planting, seeding and harvesting of the produce.Participants will gain a better understanding of agricultural sustainability and receive some fresh herbs to take home to remember this experience!  Sponsored by The Office of Sustainability
