Friday, October 14

    All registered participants should check in to pick up your packets, including the Guide to Family Weekend, wristbands, tickets and other goodies! Stop by this location anytime you need assistance or just want to take a break. Sponsored by The Dean of Students Office All families are strongly encouraged to check-in on Friday!

    This is your opportunity to share your student’s college experience. Please ask your student to contact his/her professor for permission in advance. Please note that some classes will not be able to accommodate visitors due to limited space.

    Explore your cougar pathway to success! Meet and Greet Breakfast With University Career Services! Student Services Center 1 (first floor)
    Join University Career Services for breakfast and chat with our career counselors about exploring related pathways to success, enhancing your students’ resume and cover letter, and practice interviewing skills for their job/internship search. Meet our student ambassadors and tour our office to receive your free giveaway!

    Tour of M.D. Anderson Library and Exhibits, M.D. Anderson Library
    Visit the M.D. Anderson Library for a tour of the space students voted “Best Place to Study” in 2015 and 2016. Chat with library staff about the technology, services, and study spaces available to students, and explore library exhibits, including “Storied: The First Ten Years of the Creative Writing Program,” which details the founding of the program and showcases works by alumni. Tours of the building will be offered every half hour starting at 10am. Don’t have time for a tour? Stop by anytime from 10am to 12pm to pick up brochures and free giveaways.

    Zumba with Anakaren, Campus Recreation and Wellness Center, Multipurpose room #4
    The Campus Recreation fitness program offers over 50 different group fitness classes a week to help your student get involved, stay in shape, and feel great! We would like to extend you the same opportunity to participate in our licensed programs. Zumba is a Latin-inspired, easy to follow dance-fitness party that will change the way you think about fitness. The cardiovascular workout will make you sweat as you boogie to the beats of international rhythms. Great for everyone in the family.

    Health Center Open House featuring FREE Flu Shots, Student Service Center 2 – Building 525 on the campus map
    What better way to keep your student healthy and successful this academic year than to get them vaccinated against influenza. Free flu shots will be available to students with valid ID at the University of Houston Health Center. Available while supplies last. Picture ID required.     Spec’s Beverage and Food Appreciation Lab (Room S116), 1st floor South Lobby of Hilton College. Meet the Dean of the Conrad N. Hilton College and receive an update on what’s happening at Hilton College. Then you’ll hear from some student leaders and how their experiences here have enhanced their professional development. This discussion will be followed by a tour of our facilities, and coffee and dessert in Cougar Grounds—our student-run coffee shop. We look forward to welcoming our Cougar parents and their future leaders of the hospitality industry!

    The Campus Recreation fitness program offers over 50 different group fitness classes a week to help your student get involved, stay in shape, and feel great! We would like to extend you the same opportunity to participate in our licensed programs. This mind-body fusion class is the perfect combination of everything you want and enjoy. Featuring short bursts of cardiovascular and strength training for all-over body conditioning. Traditional Pilates and Yoga with an added twist of dynamic balance, dance, plyometrics, and functional training. You should definitely give this one a try, great for all levels of fitness.

    Join fellow Cougar alumni for a reception prior to the opening barbeque. Special guests from the office of Alumni Relations will be greeting our alumni and highlighting another successful year. Light appetizers will be served.

    Family BBQ with the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Services*,Student Center South, Houston Room
    All family members are invited to our annual BBQ event. Special presentations will be made by UH Administrators, Faculty, the President of the Alumni Association (and fellow Coog Parent), and students. We will celebrate fellowship and UH success at this exciting event! Dinner and beverages will be provided. Sponsored by The Dean of Students Office

    UH Game Day Celebration, Please look for the “Family Weekend Tent” located at North Side of TDECU, grassy area near Entrance #4
    All families are invited to join us at the UH Family Tailgate (please refer to the map inside your Guidebook). Our celebration includes live music, UH band appearance, and visits with Shasta! A multitude of activities will be going-on so pick and choose what you and your family would like to participate in or just sit back and relax over good conversation and food.     Saleri Studio Saturday, Blaffer Art Museum located in the Fine Arts Building
    Family Weekend guests can partake in our museum’s annual family art-making day! Participants will take a guided tour of the museum, then have the opportunity to make art drawings or small architectural models inspired by the current exhibition. This event is appropriate for all ages and free refreshments will be served.

    Join Family Weekend participants, staff, and faculty for brunch at TBD before venturing over to TDECU stadium tour and photo on the field. Cost of brunch TBD.

    VIP Tours of TCEDU Stadium and Photo on the Field, VIP Entrance on south side of stadium at Entrance 13 (located at Cullen Blvd and Cougar Place, VIP entrance faces parking Lot 12A which is available for you to park in)
    Be our guests for a VIP, behind-the-scenes tour of TDECU Stadium. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity! You will see the Club Lobby, the Presidential Suite, the Athletics Director’s Suite, the Press Box and the Home Team Locker Room. Your tour will also include a trip onto the football field! Your tour guide will meet you at the VIP Entrance on the south side of the Stadium. Prepare yourself for a wonderful experience!

  • Library Exhibits: “Storied: The First Ten Years of the Creative Writing Program” & “USS Houston”

    Friday: 7:00am – 9:45pm; Saturday: 8:00am – 7:45pm; Sunday: 11:00am – 1:45am
    “Storied: The First Ten Years of the Creative Writing Program,” located on the first floor of the M.D. Anderson Library, highlights the founding and first decade of the UH Creative Writing Program, showcasing works by alumni and spotlighting the lives and careers of faculty members. “USS Houston,” a permanent exhibit located on the second floor of the MD Anderson Library, tells the story of the USS Houston (CA-30), a heavy cruiser launched in 1929, and her crew. The exhibition features original letters and artifacts from the ship and the POW camps, an American flag made by prisoners-of-war in Saigon, and vintage photographs of USS Houston crew members. Paintings of the ship are also on display, as well as a newly restored model, ship's bell, and two uniforms.

    Even though it’s October, Houston can still be HOT! If your family needs to cool off, take some time to enjoy our beautiful outdoor leisure pool complete with slides, and waterfall. A perfect time for the younger siblings who may just want to have some fun in the sun. Lifeguards will be on duty, children under the age of 18 must have a parent present.
