Friday, October 12th
9:00- 6:00pm	Family Weekend Check-in and Parent Headquarters, Campus Recreation and Wellness Center All registered participants should check in to pick up your packets, including the Guide to Family Weekend, nametags, tickets and other goodies! Stop by this location anytime you need assistance or just want to take a break. Sponsored by The Dean of Students Office All families are strongly encouraged to check-in on Friday!
9:00 -5:00pm	Class with your student This is your opportunity to share your student’s college experience. Please ask your student to contact his/her professor for permission in advance.
10:00-12:00pm	Library Open House and Tours, M.D. Anderson Library Visit M.D. Anderson Library and chat with librarians about the technology, services, and study spaces available to students. Tours of the building will be offered every half hour staring at 10:30am. Don't have time for a tour? Stop by the library anytime between 10:00-12:00 to pick up brochures and free giveaways. 11:00-1:00pm	Dine Like Your Student Hungry? Visit any retail restaurant located in the UC Main or UC Satellite and receive $1.00 off of your purchase. 1:00-2:30pm	Conrad N. Hilton College (open to all majors) Demonstration Kitchen (Room S116), 1st floor South Lobby of Hilton College Meet our Associate Dean of Academics and receive an update on what's happening at Hilton College. Then you'll hear from the student leaders of three of our student organizations and how their experiences here have enhanced their professional development. This discussion will be followed by a tour of our facilities, and coffee and dessert in Cougar Grounds—our student-run coffee shop. We look forward to welcoming our Cougar parents and their future leaders of the hospitality industry!
1:00-2:00pm	Caring From Afar: What you need to know to help your student have a positive emotional experience and succeed at UH, Campus Recreation and Wellness Center, Wellness Classroom Room 1038 The college experience is a fun but also stressful time for students. This workshop will help you to understand the necessary balance between supporting your student and providing the independence that is critical for success in college.
1:00-4:00pm	University Career Services (UCS) Open House, Student Services Building I Does your student need help: Choosing a major? Writing his/her resume? Preparing for an interview? Come by and see how we can help! Spin the University Career Services wheel for a prize and enjoy refreshments while we walk you through our services. Parents and family members will also receive a VIP packet of career- related information including a free copy of our book, Career Visions.
1:00-4:00pm	Health Center Open House featuring FREE Flu Shots, UH Health Center located between Student Service Center 1 and 2 What better way to keep your students healthy and successful this academic year than to get them vaccinated against the flu. Free flu shots will be available to students with valid ID at the University of Houston Health Center. Family members who are 18 years old or older can also receive the flu shot for $15. Available while supplies last. Picture ID required. Free Physical Exams and Teeth Cleaning – When you visit the Health Center your student can enter a drawing for a free physical exam and/or teeth cleaning! Find out more about services we offer: General Medical Clinic, Dermatology, Orthopedics, Psychiatry, Women's Clinic, Men's Clinic, Dental Clinic, Lab and Pharmacy Services.
2:00-3:15pm	Cullen College of Engineering (open to all majors) Engineering Commons located on the 1st floor of Engineering Bldg. #1 Visit the Cullen College of Engineering to see some of the projects in which our students engage as they learn the principles of engineering. Experience student-designed robotic projects like the Sumo-bot and the Target Acquisition Bot. Also see one of our popular outreach projects – Breadboard Bingo. 2:00-7:00pm	Family Pool Time, Campus Recreation and Wellness Center, leisure pool Even though it's October, Houston can still be HOT! If your family needs to cool off, take some time to enjoy our beautiful outdoor leisure pool complete with slides, waterfall and hot tub. A perfect time for the younger siblings who may just want to have some fun in the sun. If being outdoors is not your thing, then take your family for dip in our indoor Olympic-size pool and swim where Olympians dive ….. Lifeguards will be on duty, children under the age of 16 must have a parent present. Sponsored by Campus Recreation
1:00-7:00pm	Open Climbing, Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Add a challenge to your Family Weekend and enjoy an afternoon of fun on our 53ft. climbing wall! Parents, students, siblings, and friends are all invited to test their climbing skills. Never climbed? Don’t worry- our experienced staff will teach you everything you need to know. 4:00-5:00pm	Parent and Family Class, Fleming Building, SEC 100 Come discover (or remember) what it's like to be a part of a college classroom! One of UH's most beloved professors, Dr. Simon Bott, is hosting a class specifically for you; expect to laugh a lot while learning something new!
5:00-6:00pm	College Success: How to Help Your Students! Campus Recreation and Wellness, Wellness Classroom Room 1038 The college-level learning and study strategies addressed in this session are life skills applicable to your college student as to you as their primary resource. 6:00-6:30pm	Meet the Greeks! Campus Recreation and Wellness (part of the family BBQ extravaganza), Wellness Classroom Room 1038 Join members from UH fraternities and sororities as they share their experiences of being student leaders and highlight what our fraternity and sorority students are doing on campus and within the community. This session is open to all families, regardless if your student is currently in a fraternity or sorority. Sponsored by The Center for Fraternity & Sorority Life
5:30-7:30pm	Family BBQ Celebration, Campus Recreation and Wellness Center All Family Weekend participants are welcome to join us for music, food, fun and friends! Have the chance to interact with other UH families and student leaders including representatives from our Student Government Association, UH fraternity and sorority members, and many more. A multitude of activities will be going-on so pick and choose what you and your family would like to participate in or just sit back and relax over good conversation and food. It's a fusion of Latin and international music and dance themes creating a dynamic, exciting and effective fitness experience! 6:30-8:00pm	The Honors College "Dessert with the Dean", (open only to Honor students) Honors College Commons, 212 MD Anderson Library Please join Honors College Dean Bill Monroe and Assistant Dean Jodie Koszegi on Friday evening after dinner in the Honors College Commons for casual desserts and coffee. Honors College tours will be available for families that have not been able to visit Honors and there will be a welcome from Dean Monroe at 7:00PM. This is a private event that is open only to registered Family Weekend attendees (Honors students and their guests). 8:00-9:00pm	Friday Night Concert featuring Andy Grammer! Cullen Performance Hall The wonderfully original Andy Grammer brilliantly blends classic and modern styles into a catchy cocktail of genuine pop to produce popular hits such as Keep Your Head Up, Fine By Me and many more. Andy's music is one part John Legend, one part Maroon 5 with a splash of Lauryn Hill. 9:00-10:00am	Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture (open only to Architecture majors), Architecture Building, Theater room #150 Join us in the College of Architecture for an inside peek at what it means to be a design student. Hear from current students in the College of Architecture, go on a tour of the facilities, and see a demonstration in the Keeland Design Center. Light refreshments will be served.
9:00-10:30am	UH Family Tailgate, Robertson Stadium, President’s Pavilion Join us at the UH Family Tailgate, located directly in front or Robertson Stadium on the Scott Street Side. We will be located inside Tailgate Village in the President's Pavilion and surrounding area (please refer to the map inside your registration). Our celebration includes music, Cougar Family Photos and visits with Shasta! Breakfast and beverages will be provided. Sponsored by the UH Alumni Association and The Dean of Students Office 9:00-9:30 Cougar Walk, Proceeding each home football game, the UH cheerleaders and band gathers for a pregame tradition that includes performing several musical selections as the 2012 Football Team enters the Stadium. Bring your shouting voice and get ready to cheer for the Cougars! 9:00-10:30 Cougar Kid Zone, located outside Gate 7 in Tailgate Village Inflatables, face painting, games and the chance to interact with UH student athletes!
9:00-10:30am	Zeta Tau Alpha "Think Pink" Parent's Tailgate *This is a private event open only to guests of ZTA.* Parents and guests of ZTA members are invited to join the chapter in celebrating a successful Think Pink Week. This week-long philanthropy project helped the University of Houston chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha raise money for Breast Cancer Education and Awareness. Come join the women of ZTA for the announcement of the Think Pink Week Competition's winner, fun and food!

11:00- 1:30pm	Downtown Bike Tour, Meet in the lobby of the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Join Outdoor Adventure on a leisurely bike ride through downtown Houston. All equipment is provided and total distance for the tour is 10 miles. Space is limited! Please call 713-743-0808 by October 8th to reserve your spot. All participants must be at least 16 years of age and have the ability to ride a bike. Sponsored by Campus Recreation
11:00-1200pm	Introduction to Martial Arts Class, Campus Recreation and Wellness Center, Multipurpose Room #4 Come learn the basic skills of Bujinkan Ninjutsu including technique and forms. No prior experience necessary! All participants must stop by the Fitness Zone on the 2nd floor to sign a waiver before attending this class.

1:00-2:30pm	Campus Community Garden, Corner of Cullen and Wheeler in the park The Campus Community Garden at the University of Houston teaches students how to garden organically while giving back to the community by providing healthy produce to local food banks. Participants will sample food from the garden, receive a tour and brief history of the garden and have the opportunity to learn the “ins-and-outs” of managing a garden including weeding, planting, seeding and harvesting of the produce.Participants will gain a better understanding of agricultural sustainability and receive some fresh herbs to take home to remember this experience! 3:00-5:00pm	Tour of Blaffer's renovated space and Tony Feher, Fine Arts Building Discover the newest, most innovative contemporary art to explore the artistic forces that shape our surroundings. Blaffer Art Museum invites you to take a free, guided tour, offered on the half hour from 3:00-5:00 pm. Visit Tony Feher, the museum's inaugural exhibition and help celebrate the museum's grand reopening. Our knowledgeable docents will take you through a world of colorful, abstract sculptures that often conjure new takes on objects daily life, re-imagined in unexpected and inspiring way.
