What is Family Weekend?

Family Weekend will be held October 12-13, 2012. The focus of the event is to welcome parents, family members and family friends of our students to campus so that they can have the opportunity to experience a portion of their student’s life at The University of Houston.

Who can attend Family Weekend?

This is an ideal time for families of all our students to visit UH. We invite parents, siblings, aunts and uncles, grandparents and anyone else in your family tree to join us for this exciting weekend!

Do I need to register?

Yes, all participants need to register if they plan on attending any of the Family Weekend events. The deadline for registration is  October 1st, 2012. Click here to register. (please note that registration will not open till late summer)

What is the registration fee, and what does that include?

There are two Family Weekend packages, the only difference is that one package includes tickets to the UH football game. Family weekend registration packages can be purchased for either $45 (including the football game) or $25 per person. A package includes admission to participate in activities listed on the Family Weekend schedule of events including educational and social activities, the Family BBQ and the official UH Family Tailgate party. Every person registered will also receive the official Family Weekend T-shirt as well as additional give-away items and discounts to various venues across campus.

UH students get into all activities for free when their family members have registered for the event. Please be aware that while your student is able to attend the football game for free, their tickets are for seats located in the student section, which is adjacent to our Family Weekend section. If you would like to reserve a ticket for your student to sit with you in the Family Weekend section, you must purchase a Family Weekend package for them ($45).

*The time of the UH football game has not yet been announced. Therefore, the schedule of events may be adjusted and some programs may be eliminated in order to accommodate the game time.

What do we do when we first get to campus and how do we meet up with our student?

Please go to the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center on Friday to check in and pick up your registration packet. This location would be a good spot to meet up with your student. Make sure you communicate with your student (before you arrive for the weekend) where and when you plan to meet- we won’t know how to reach your student. If you know that you will be arriving after 6:00 on Friday, you might ask your student to pick up your registration packet for you sometime during the day.

Can my student pick up my registration packet?

Yes, if you are unable to attend check-in for the weekend, your student can pick up your registration information. Please make sure your student brings his/her UH student ID.

How can I purchase tickets to the Family Weekend football game? Will they be mailed to me?

Football tickets are included in the $45 Family Weekend package. Tickets will be included in your registration materials that you will pick up at check-in on Friday, October 12th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center  or Saturday, October 13th from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the University Center (Houston room) Tickets will not be mailed.

If I purchase a football ticket with my package, am I guaranteed a ticket?

Football tickets can be purchased as long as we have tickets available. We encourage you to register early to ensure that football tickets are available at the time you complete your registration.

What Can I expect at the Family Tailgate?
Enjoy a family-oriented tailgate experience in the UH Tailgate Village located on the Scott Street side, directly in front of Robertson Stadium. We will provide traditional picnic fare food (hot dogs, sides and desserts) as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.  We will also have a variety of tailgate games including washers, ladder golf, and a bounce house for the kids as well as poster-making and face-painting. Though we are providing food, drinks, chairs and games, you are also welcome to bring your own. This is a great time to socialize and cheer on the UH team before the big game!
