Formal Recruitment is the process by which chapters invite women to join the Houston Panhellenic Council community. Formal Recruitment has 3 rounds of events where chapters will get to know the women and the women can meet members of the organizations. Each round becomes more formal in nature as women reduce the number of chapters they attend and chapters narrow the number of women invited back to visit their organization.
When: September 12th-13th, 2013
On the first day of Recruitment, you will attend events with each of the six sororities. During these events you will be able to meet several women from each chapter and learn more about each sorority. The theme of this day is "Sisterhood." Sisterhood is the close bond that all of the members of a sorority share with each other. This holds a unique meaning within each chapter and each will give you a glimpse into their sisterhood. This is a great time to ask the chapter members any questions you may have about their sorority and its sisterhood.
Attire: At recruitment orientation, you will be provided with a t-shirt to wear. Pair it with any slacks, capris, jeans, or skirt of your choice. Remember to be comfortable, as this is a long day.
When: September 14th, 2013
On this day you will have the opportunity to attend events with up to four chapters. Because of this, you will be able to spend a little more time with each chapter in order to get a better feel for each one. The focus of this day is each sorority's national philanthropy, local philanthropy and/or community service involvement. You will get to see how each sorority works to give back to our community. The sororities will give you more information about the organizations that they are involved with and may ask you to participate in a small craft that supports their philanthropy.
Attire: This day is a little bit dressier than the first. Most women wear sundresses or a nice pair of slacks and a blouse.
When: September 15th, 2013
This is the most serious and exciting day of recruitment. On Preference Day you will attend a maximum of two events and so, will spend even longer with each sorority. This day is when the members of each chapter will share their sorority's values with you, and you will be able to see how these women live them out every day. On this day you should be thinking about each sorority's values, how they compliment your values, and if you can see yourself as a part of their sisterhood. This day will help you to discover which sorority would best meet your needs and make your college experience the fullest it can be. Please feel free to ask the chapter members any last questions that you have on this day. Immediately after your final Preference event you will complete your Preference Card. This is your final opportunity to rank your preference of sororities. Keep an open mind and do not let anyone influence this decision, only you know what is best for you.
Attire: This is the dressiest day of Recruitment. You should wear a dress or skirt and blouse that you would wear to church or in any modest setting.
When: September 15th, 2013
This is a very fun evening! You will first meet with your Rho Gamma group and all of the other women who have just completed Recruitment with you. At this time you will have a little bit of fun finding out the affiliation of each of your Rho Gammas and then will be given your bid card. Your bid card is an invitation to join one sorority. After every woman has received her bid card, you will all attend each of your own sorority's welcoming event.
Attire: Casual slacks, capris, jeans, etc are recommended. You will be given a shirt to wear from your sorority so you may want to wear a tank top so that you can slip the t-shirt over your tank.
