Dona G. Hamilton earned her undergraduate and
law degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. She
first joined the Texas Attorney General’s office in 1987 as an
Assistant Attorney General in the General Litigation Division,
having previously worked in Texas legislative positions. She
left the position of Assistant Attorney General in 1992 to become
a shareholder in the Austin-based Morehead, Jordan & Carmona
law firm. She returned to the Attorney General’s office in
1995 and became Deputy Chief of the General Litigation Division in
1996.
As Deputy Chief of the General Litigation
Division, Ms. Hamilton supervised 30 attorneys with responsibility
for the 700-plus cases handled by the division. The division
represents state officials and agencies/universities in litigation
involving employment law, personal damage claims, whistle-blower
claims, federal and state civil rights law (including class
actions), and constitutional law.
Ms. Hamilton has been licensed to practice law
in Texas since 1986 and is admitted to practice in the United
States District Courts of the Southern, Northern, Western and
Eastern Districts of Texas and before the Fifth Circuit Court of
Appeals.
Ms. Hamilton joined the University of Houston
as General Counsel in June 2002.
