The Master of Science in Nursing program is designed to build upon the BSN degree. Students in this program are prepared to function at advanced levels with an expanded knowledge of theory, research and clinical application. Graduates are prepared to provide evidenced based health care and to work on collaborative teams. Each graduate will be able to function in an advanced practice role as a nurse, nurse administrator, or for the role of a nurse educator.

Admission Information

1. Complete the NursingCAS online application for graduate admission at the NursingCAS website. NursingCAS is a national centralized application service for students applying to registered nursing programs. Submit all required documents to NursingCAS so that your application can be processed in a timely manner. Request all official transcripts be sent directly to NursingCAS. Students should ensure that all official documents have been submitted to Nursing CAS at least 6 weeks prior to the deadline date. To be eligible for this program you must have a minimum 3.0 GPA in your cumulative (all) course work.

3. The Gessner College of Nursing only offers admission to the MSN Tracks in the Fall semester. Courses, including lab and clinical components of the curriculum are offered face to face. All testing, class time, and clinical, practicum, and lab experiences are offered on Wednesdays. The College of Nursing's Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is a part-time program.
4. Applicants to the MSN Tracks must have graduated from an accredited BSN program. Applicants who have completed an international BSN program that is not affiliated to a university may not have satisfied the requirement for admission to the Gessner College of Nursing graduate Tracks due to the non-academic nature of this type of coursework. Contact an advisor in the Gessner College of Nursing for additional information.
5. Applicants must provide evidence of an unencumbered, current Texas Registered Nurse license.
6. Applicants must complete a one page personal statement.
7. Applicants must submit 2 letters of Recommendation.
8. Official score(s) of the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is not required for applicants with a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. A GRE or MAT score will be required for applicants with a GPA between 2.75 – 2.9 for conditional admission. Scores may not be more than 5 years old.
9. An Interview is required for admission.
10. Applicants invited for admission must satisfy the College of Nursing Policy for Clinical Readiness Requirements prior to enrollment each semester.
11. Attendance to the College of Nursing Program Orientation is mandatory.
