Friends of Nursing Fund

Text saying Friends of nursing fund helps studentsThe Friends of Nursing fund began when donors and friends of the Andy and Barbara Gessner College of Nursing first realized that there were expenses that nursing students had that students in other degree programs might not incur. For example, students wear scrubs and need several sets. Students in the Second Degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing program take 60 credit hours within a twelve month period. Their classes and field placements consume them for the year they are in the program, so providing meals and snacks at times helps them stay on task and succeed.

Another example of the importance of the Friends of Nursing Fund was after Hurricane Harvey when many students lost their books, stethoscopes, laptops and other critical supplies they needed to stay enrolled and complete their programs. Friends of Nursing helped with these needs, and many sent gifts from other parts of the U.S. after hearing about our nursing students’ needs.

Thank you for being a Friend of Nursing! Gifts of all sizes help tremendously. For more information about how to make a gift to the College of Nursing, please contact LaDawn Fletcher, Development Officer for the Gessner College of Nursing, at 713.743.2581, or email lfletcher3@uh.edu.
