Dr. Paige K. Evans is a Clinical Professor in the department of Mathematics at the University of Houston (UH). She is currently a Fellow of the Physics Teacher Education Coalition and the Vice President/President Elect of the UTeach STEM Educators Association (USEA). She is the PI/Co-PI on several NSF grants, the director of the Noyce Internship and Scholarship Program, and actively publishes and presents on STEM teacher preparation and physics education research. She has been honored with the UH Teaching Excellence Award, the UH Group Teaching Excellence Award, and the Natural Science and Mathematics John. C. Butler Teaching Excellence Award. Prior to UH, she spent 18 years as a secondary math/science educator and served in various leadership positions including science department chair.

Laura Harlow

Laura Harlow taught secondary-level mathematics for 22 years, 3 years in a middle school setting and 19 years in Houston area high schools. She earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Mathematics from Stephen F. Austin State University and a Master’s degree in Educational Technology from Lamar University. During her career, Ms. Harlow has taught 8th grade math, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus and Advanced Quantitative Reasoning (AQR). With Texas state certifications in Secondary Mathematics, Master Mathematics Teacher, Computer Science, and Technology Applications, Laura has a varied skill set that she shares with the pre-service teachers in the teachHOUSTON program. Ms. Harlow enjoys mentoring young educators and sharing her love of teaching.

Cheryl Latiolais began her career with a Bachelors in Mathematics from the University of Houston at Clear Lake. After several years teaching High School Mathematics she became a curriculum writer and professional development specialist for the Houston Independent School District. She earned her Master of Arts in Education from Lamar University and is currently serving as Master Teacher in the teachHOUSTON program.

Mariam Manuel, M.A. Engineering Education, is a proud graduate of the University of Houston and was part of the inaugural cohort of the teachHOUSTON program during its inception in 2007. Currently, Mariam Manuel serves as an Instructional Assistant Professor / Master Teacher for the teachHOUSTON program. In addition to her work for teachHOUSTON, Mariam teaches Physics for Pre-Service Middle School Teachers. She also authored and teaches the engineering education courses, Fundamentals of Engineering Education and Projects in Engineering Design, for the University of Houston STEM Master’s program provided through the College of Education. She is currently Co-PI on two NSF grants regarding engineering education and teacher leadership. She is also the recipient of the 2018 Million Women Mentors Stand Up for STEM Award which recognizes Mariam’s efforts in mentoring young girls and women to pursue STEM related career pathways.

Perri Segura, Ed.D. has served as a Master Teacher for teachHOUSTON since 2007. Prior to joining teachHOUSTON, she taught science in 2 local school districts, worked as a science instructional specialist in a large suburban district mentoring science teachers in both middle and high schools, and served as a district administrator as the Secondary Science Coordinator. She is passionate about developing pre-service teachers’ skills and abilities to teach through inquiry. She is the proud recipient of a UH Teaching Excellence Award, a UH Group Teaching Excellence Award, and was honored to receive the first Outstanding Master Teacher Award given by the UTeach STEM Educators Association.
