UH SIAM Chapter Event

UH AMS and UH SIAM Student Chapter's "Graduate Student Paper Presentation"

The UH Student Chapters - AMS and SIAM - are pleased to announce that the "Graduate Student Paper Presentation" event for this year has been scheduled to take place tentatively on FRIDAY, APRIL 7, 2017.

This event aims at providing graduate students a platform for developing and refining the essential skills required for delivering a formal talk in short span of time. The talk need not necessarily be on your original work. The talk should not exceed 15 minutes. Each presentation will be evaluated by a panel of judges from the department. Prizes and certificates will be awarded to top three speakers selected by the panel.

We encourage graduate students from all stages of PhD program to participate in this event! Do not be discouraged from giving a talk even if you formally haven’t started doing research yet. Your presentation does not necessarily have to be your own work!

Whether you plan to get a job in the academia or the industry, effective public speaking and presentation skills are very important. This will be a great opportunity for you to practice giving a talk in front of an audience and get feedback from the experts to help you improve your skills. And not to mention, there will be prizes (gift cards) for the top winners!

If you are willing to give a talk in this event, then please sign up as soon as possible at this Google Docs link.

The deadline to submit the abstract of your talk is Monday, APRIL 3 2017.

Once you are ready to submit, please copy/paste your abstract at this Google Docs link

The slides for your talk will need to be submitted 24 hours prior to the event. More details will be given in the upcoming weeks. We look forward to your participation! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at uhsiam@math.uh.edu or uhams@math.uh.edu.
