Biographical Information

Adry Bissada is Professor of Petroleum Geochemistry and Director of the Petroleum Systems and Geochemistry Program at the University of Houston. He was senior research scientist and director of the Geochemistry Unit at the Geotechnology Research Institute in The Woodlands, Tx., Dr. Bissada received his B.Sc. in Geology and Chemistry in 1962 from the University of Assiut, Egypt. He was awarded an M.S. degree in Geology / Geophysics in 1965 and a Ph.D. in Geology/ Geochemistry in 1967, both from Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri. Since then, Dr. Bissada has worked as a research geochemist in diverse capacities. He joined Texaco in 1969 as a Senior Geologist and became Supervisor of Geologic Research in 1979. He was named Manager, Geochemical Research in 1984. During his 29- year professional career, Dr. Bissada has contributed to geochemistry in many ways: He has investigated and published papers on fundamental geochemical processes ranging from organic/clay interactions; hydrocarbon generation and migration in sedimentary basins; and geologic and geochemical controls on source rock development. He has participated in the development of methods for seismic identification of potential source systems; Integration of geology and geochemistry into basin modeling and exploration risk analysis; and "geochemical inversion" of isotopic and biomarker data on hydrocarbons to infer attributes of the petroleum system. He has developed a variety of geochemical analytical techniques for which three patents have been issued and one patent is currently pending. Dr. Bissada has lectured extensively on Applied Geochemistry at numerous universities and research institutions in the USA, Canada, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, the UK, Switzerland, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, the Philippines, and Indonesia.
