Dr. Jay K. Kochi Graduate Fellowship in Chemistry

Amount: $5500

Criteria: The Department of Chemistry Graduate Committee will select the fellowship recipient based on his or her academic and research accomplishments while a graduate student in the UH Department of Chemistry. For fellowship consideration, an applicant must meet the following criteria: 1) be a current full-time graduate student (i.e., be registered for ≥9 credit hours) in the UH Department of Chemistry, 2) have passed the Chemistry Oral Research Progress Exam at the Ph.D. level, and 3) have a minimum of one calendar year as a full-time student remaining in his or her Ph.D. studies.

How to Apply: Submit all documents to your advisor between April 1-15. Based on your advisor recommendation, he/she will submitsubmit to the UH Chemistry Graduate advisor an email with "Kochi Fellowship Application" in the subject field and a single PDF document attachment that contains your full CV with publication record, an unofficial UH transcript, full copies of your published and submitted papers from research performed at UH (only UH publications), and a document giving a brief account of your research contribution to each submitted and published paper with your UH Ph.D. advisor. In addition, a letter of recommendation from your UH Ph.D. advisor should be submitted separately to the Chemistry Graduate Advisor via email. The research advisor's letter should state explicitly that the candidate has a minimum of one calendar year as a full time student remaining in his or her Ph.D. studies.

Graduate Student Research

Amount: $500

For scholarship consideration, an applicant must be a current full-time graduate student (i.e., be registered for ≥9 credit hours) in the UH Department of Chemistry and have a current UH GPA ≥3.0 as a graduate student.

Outstanding Student in Tribology Research Award

Amount: $500 - $1250

Criteria: The Department of Chemistry Tribology Research Award Committee will select the award recipient based on his or her academic and research accomplishments while a student in the UH Department of Chemistry. For scholarship consideration, an applicant must be a current full-time graduate or undergraduate student performing research in the laboratory of a faculty member in the UH Department of Chemistry, have a current UH GPA ≥3.0, and be conducting tribology-related research.

How to Apply: By February 1, submit to the UH Chemistry Graduate Advisor an email with "Outstanding Student in Tribology Research Award Application" in the subject field and a single PDF document attachment that contains a full CV with publication record, an unofficial UH transcript, full copies of your published and submitted papers from research performed at UH (only UH publications), and a document giving a brief account of your research contribution to each submitted and published paper with your UH research advisor. In addition, a letter of recommendation from your UH research advisor should be submitted separately to the Chemistry Graduate Advisor via email.

Outstanding Teaching Assistant Awards

Introductory Chemistry Laboratories Teaching Assistant Award
Amount: $500

Organic Chemistry Laboratories Teaching Assistant Award
Amount: $500

Upper Level Chemistry Laboratories Teaching Assistant Award
Amount: $500

Criteria: The Teaching Assistant Awards Committee will select the award recipient based on evidence of excellence in teaching undergraduate laboratories (e.g., student evaluations, coordinator recommendations, and faculty recommendations). Recipients must be full-time graduate students in the Department of Chemistry (i.e., be registered for ≥9 credit hours) and have a current UH GPA ≥ 3.0 as a graduate student.

Lewis Florence Memorial Scholarship

Amount: $2500 per student. Two awards available

Criteria: Students majoring in Honors Biomedical Science (HBS) may apply for the Lewis Florence Memorial Scholarship. Students must have a GPA over 3.00 and show financial need.

How to Apply: By May 9th, students should send their resume and arrange for one recommendation from a UH Faculty member to be sent to the HBS Director (Dr. Andrew Hamilton).
