‘FIRST-RATE COMMUNICATION SKILLS, GRANTSMANSHIP’ EARN SECOND HONOR FOR HALASYAMANI

Five years ago, P. Shiv Halasyamani was the recipient of the Excellence in Research and Scholarship Award for the assistant professor rank. This year, he received the award again for his work at the next level, as an associate professor of chemistry.

Having published more than 80 research papers, Halasyamani’s “research accomplishments and publication record clearly distinguish him as one of the top young chemists of his generation,” attested a colleague from Northwestern University. An associate from the University of Oxford who has known Halasyamani for more than a decade says, “I have been extremely impressed in the way in which he has developed into a front-line academic scientist. He is also an excellent communicator of his science both orally and in writing.”

His nominator wrote, “the inter-disciplinary nature of (his) research…has yielded many fruitful collaborations.” Across the board, all Halasyamani’s supporters acknowledge his success in garnering external funding, with his nomination form declaring him as “one of the most innovative and well-regarded, young solid-state chemists in the world today.”

Three Awards for Excellence in Research and Scholarship are given each year to faculty who have achieved a substantial record of outstanding research, scholarship or creative activities in their field. Each award carries a $5,000 stipend and a plaque.
