College Career Day Offers Admissions, Financial Aid Workshops for Future First-Time-In-College Freshmen

Students from area high schools will converge on the University of Houston to learn how the University might fit into their higher education plans.  The College Career Day, sponsored by the Center for Mexican American Studies (CMAS), is planned from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 29 at the UH University Center ballroom.

“Many of the high school seniors who will visit UH will be the first in their families to attend college,” said Lorenzo Cano, associate director of CMAS. “The visit makes them aware of the opportunities available to them.”

Students will tour the campus and participate in workshops that detail student life issues, admissions and financial aid information.  Two Houston poets, Marlon Lizama and Jasminne Mendez, will recite their poetry during a planned luncheon. Their poetry conveys their Latino culture and experiences.  They’ll also talk about the importance of the arts.

The CMAS College Career Days were established in 1983. This is the third of four College Career Days offered in the fall semester.
