UH Economic and Real Estate Symposium Takes the Pulse of Houston, Nation

Though economists have declared the national economic recession over as of last year, many still have questions about the prognosis for the U.S. and Houston economies.  Ted C. Jones, chief economist for Stewart Title Co., addresses these concerns in the University of Houston Institute for Regional Forecasting's biannual economic and real estate forecast symposium.

Ted Jones

Titled "History May Not Repeat Itself, But It Certainly Does Rhyme" -Mark Twain, the event will be held Thursday, Nov. 4 in the Imperial Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 1200 Louisiana St.  A luncheon will be served at 11:30 a.m. with the presentation beginning at 12:10 p.m.

"The news isn't all bad," Jones said.  "Houston went into the recession later than the rest of the country, did not go in as deep, and recovered quicker.  Additionally, Houston home price trends are among the best performers in the country."

Jones will present the newest economic statistics on the Houston economy and discuss Houston's job growth engines:  the Port of Houston and related petro-chemical complex, the Medical Center, the oil and gas industry and the education complex.

A media availability is planned in the Magnolia Room from 10:45 - 11 a.m. Contact Marisa Ramirez at 713-743-8152 or mrcannon@uh.edu.

An internationally recognized real estate expert, Jones holds a doctorate in finance and gives more than 150 presentations on real estate and the economic outlook each year.   You can read his blog "Jones on Real Estate" at http://blog.stewart.com/.
