UH Looks to Defend Title at Second Annual Bayou Bucket Chili Cook-Off

UH & Rice Chefs Battle for the Bucket in a Chili Cook-Off

The University of Houston (UH) faces off against Rice University in the 2nd Annual Bayou Bucket Chili Cook-Off this weekend, Oct. 16.

UH is the reigning champion of the chili cook-off and will be travelling to Rice to compete this year. Chefs Brent Gorman and Nate Jackson will be returning to lead the Cougars into battle along with students Michael Allen and Trevor Morton.  The Houston team prides itself on having a student-based team and Chef Gorman to guide them toward another victory.

Chef Gorman is one of two executive chefs for UH and has dedicated himself to making the best dining experience available to all students. Jackson, a senior hotel and restaurant management major, has been working under Gorman for the past year after impressing him at last year's chili cook-off.  Jackson is also an active member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity. Allen is a junior biology major who has a passion for cooking and anything to do with the UH Cougars. He is also an active member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity and plans to attend medical school after graduation. Morton is a senior hotel and restaurant management major from San Antonio.

Chefs Derrix Norman, Norma Cardona, Manuel Mendez and a student will be the hosting team for the Rice Owls. The cook-off will be held in front of Rice Stadium near West Lot 4. The battle will begin at 8 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 16, and judging will be at noon. The Rice Owls and Houston Cougars face off on the football field at 2:30pm.
