Summer Camp at Hilton College Comes with a Heaping Helping of Fun, Information

Summer camp conjures images of macaroni necklaces made in crafts class or cooking hot dogs over the fire.  For students attending the University of Houston Conrad N. Hilton College Culinary Summer Camp, activities will be much different.

"We'll be touring Toyota Center to see what hospitality means when you're hosting a professional sports team or seasonal event," said Danny Arocha, director of recruitment for the Hilton College. "We'll also create meals at Central Market and at the college with our chef."

The camp is in collaboration with the Spring Branch Independent School District, UH and Houston Community College, and is planned for June 6 - 8 at the UH Hilton College.

Twenty-six students from the district will participate in this unique opportunity to learn about the hospitality industry from the inside out.   Among other activities, students will hear from experts in the industry about careers, trends and Houston's place in the hospitality industry.  Additionally, students will create their own restaurant-from menu to managing-and present their ideas on the final day of camp.

"We want students to know all the avenues they can pursue in this industry," Arocha said.  "And we want them to know how UH can help them get there."

The UH Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in hotel and restaurant management and hospitality management.  The college is a world leader in hospitality education and is consistently ranked as one of the top-ranked hospitality programs in the world.
